Five local boys teams competed at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor State Championships Thursday in Ames.
The Washington Demons finished 17th in Class 3A with 11 points. Top Demon performance on the day came in relays where the Washington 4×800 crew of Micah Rees, Logan McDole, Tyler Alderton and Lane Schrock were 3A State Runners-Up in 8:34.30. Other top finishers for the Demons included sixth for Micah Rees in the mile at 4:28.99. McDole was 11th in the 400, Andrew Rees 18th in the mile, Mason Morgan was 20th in the 60m hurdles, as was the Demon distance medley of Keider Gomez Valdez, Brennen Westphal, Seth Shepherd and Sawyer Tschantz. The 4×100 team of Morgan, Caden Greiner, Westphal and Gomez Valdez were 21st, so was Tyler Alderton in the 800. Tschantz was 22nd in the 800, Andrew Shepherd 24th in long jump and Greiner 26th in the 60m hurdles. Greyson Hartman competed in shot put.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks were 13th in Class 2A with 17 points. Emmett Swartzentruber was 2A Runner-up in the two-mile with a time of 9:57.26 to lead the way. Other top performances from the Hawks included Burke Berry fourth in shot put at 44’2″, Jayse Yoder sixth in the 800 at 2:03.14, and Preston Yutzy eighth in the 3200 at 10:28.33. The Golden Hawk 4×8 with Thomas Flynn, Jacob Donaldson, Jesse Stultz and Max Swartzentruber were 13th, the 4×4 with Donaldson, Yoder, Landry Gingerich and Emmett Swartzentruber was 17th, Thomas Lueck was 21st in long jump, Flynn was 23rd in the mile, the distance medley with Peyton Fox, Jarron Thomas, Gingerich and Yutzy was 24th and the 4×1 team with Fox, Thomas, Nolan Jergens and Cobi Hershberger was 25th. Carson Humphrey competed in high jump.
The Columbus Wildcats had the best area team finish on the day placing seventh in 1A with 27 points. Top ten highlights for the ‘Cats included a third place time for the 4×100 team of Juan Chairez, Alexander Rees, Lamar Ceant, and Kaden Amigon in 45.27 seconds. Amigon posted a pair of fourth place finishes in the 60m dash in 7.19 seconds and the 200 in 22.93 seconds. Russell Coil led the field events crew in fourth place in the shot put throwing 47’4″. Rees was fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.74 seconds, the 4×800 team of Ty Muniz, Angel Venzor, Cade Storm and Damian Vergara were seventh in 9:01.51, and Amigon was 10th in long jump at 19’1″. Other events included 11th and 13th in the two-mile for Muniz and Cael Phillips respectively, 14th for Lamar Ceant in the long jump, 15th for Markel Zapiensz in the shot put, and 18th for Vergara in the 800.
Hillcrest Academy finished 34th in 1A with three points. Owen Scott was sixth in high jump at 5’9″. Kale Bailey was 12th in the same event.
Winfield-Mt. Union took 30th in 1A with five points. Kohlby Newsom was fourth in the half mile at 2:05.34 and the 4×800 team of Sheadan Adams, Bowen Thomson, Ty Scorpil and Newsom were 11th.
