After keeping up his brilliant boys’ basketball season on the game’s biggest stage, Winfield-Mount Union star Cam Buffington earned another top honor. The senior has been named to the Iowa High School Athletic Association All-State Tournament team for Class 1A.
Buffington joins Marquette Catholic’s Spencer Roeder, Lake Mills’ Aiden Stensrud and North Linn’s Ty Pflughaupt and Mason Bechen on the all-tournament team after putting up a combined 33 points and 16 rebounds in two games at the Class 1A championships.
Buffington helped lead the Wolves to a 54-37 victory over Lynnville-Sully in the quarterfinals with 21 points and nine boards before WMU lost to eventual champion North Linn in the semis.
The 2024 Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Player of the Year averaged nearly 19 points, seven-and-a-half rebounds and three-and-a-half assists per game this season to lead Winfield-Mount Union to 21 wins, a Super Conference North championship and the team’s first trip to state in 28 years.
