A decision made by the Kalona City Council, curbside bag pickup for yard waste will begin on Tuesday, March 12 and continue each Tuesday through at least the end of May.

This is a significant change to previous methods of collection, which have included providing a bin for residents to dispose of their bagged waste, and hiring a service to vacuum the leaves. Despite the new pickup option, Kalona residents can still use the yard waste receptacle located at the city shop.

Anyone hoping to take advantage of the curbside pickup must have their yard waste bags on the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. The City plans to evaluate the effectiveness and participation of this strategy in the fall.
