Another top WACO football player will be taking their talents to the next level. Warriors senior Chase Waterhouse signed this week to be a preferred walk-on at the University of Northern Iowa. Waterhouse tells KCII Sports why he chose to be a Panther.

“I’ve always wanted to go to UNI,” Waterhouse says. “It’s a great business school, and business is the career that I want to pursue. On the football side, they have amazing facilities and I feel like they can offer a lot.”

Waterhouse is coming off a strong senior season on the defensive line for WACO, piling up 11 tackles for loss and three sacks in an all-district campaign. He’ll continue to play in the trenches for Northern Iowa, and it will be an opportunity to live out what he says has been a long-time goal.

“It’s always been something that I’ve loved,” he says. “I knew I wanted to play past high school [by] probably my freshman year. That was probably the first moment I realized I wanted to keep playing. I’ve always wanted to continue to the next level, and I’ve loved this sport my whole life, and I just want to keep playing.”

Waterhouse compiled 25 tackles for loss and 10-and-a-half sacks over the last two years, helping WACO reach the state playoffs in both season and play for the 8-player state championship in 2022.. In addition to his exploits on the girdiron, Waterhouse also played basketball and ran track for the Warriors.
