In the latest Fuel Report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the State saw a slight increase in fuel prices this week. Still, Iowa fuel remained lower than both last year, and the average national price.
As of Wednesday this week, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa averaged $3.17. This is three cents higher than last week, but six cents down from a year ago. The national average for unleaded gasoline is $3.40. For retail diesel, prices in Iowa rose one cent for a statewide average of $3.78. At this time in 2023, prices averaged $3.92 while the current national average is over four dollars. Wholesale ethanol held steady in the last week at $2.16.
Heating fuel prices either decreased or stayed the same. Propane prices in Iowa average $1.59 per gallon, home heating oil is at $3.18 per gallon, and natural gas prices fell 25 cents to currently sit at $1.68. For tips on saving energy, visit energy.gov or fueleconomy.gov.
