Two items voted on in Louisa County earlier this month were both approved.
Taking place on Tuesday, March 5, County voters decided to approve an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) property tax by a total of 455 to 196. The tax levy, which needed a 60 percent super-majority to pass, received nearly 70. Beginning this September, a tax of 59 cents per $1,000 taxable property valuation will be imposed, and will continue for 15 years. Revenue collected will contribute to a more dependable stream of income for ambulance services in Louisa County.
The second vote was for the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for Columbus Schools, passing 174-121. Needing just a majority, this renewal vote keeps the 67 cents per $1,000 levy in place and does not raise current taxes. PPEL funds are used by school districts to keep their buildings, transportation, equipment, and technology up to date.
