The Columbus Wildcats are in search of a return to form in boys’ soccer. Going 8-9 last year resulted in Columbus’ first losing season since 2019 and only their second in the last 13 years. But, with four losses coming by only goal each and most of the roster back, there is excitement that the Wildcats are about to return to their winning ways.

One of the returners is senior Fernando Erazo, who led the team last spring with 18 goals scored. Columbus head coach Luis Cacho tells KCII Sports that Erazo has put in the offseason work to take his game and his chemistry with his teammates to the next level.

“He was in the gym a lot to try to get stronger,” Cacho says, “and I think that he will gel with a lot of players that were sophomores last year. Hopefully he can understand better this year and keep in mind that these players, they are ready.”

Other veterans like senior Ian Estudillo and sophomores Gabriel Zuniga and Alex Aguilar will play key roles for the Wildcats, who are slated to kick off the new season Monday at home against West Liberty.
