There’s a new season of girls’ soccer at Columbus Community High School kicking off next week, and they’ll be co-oping with Winfield-Mount Union when they take the pitch this spring. The Wildcats are coming off a three-win season in 2023 and looking to make some significant strides.
Among the returners for Columbus/WMU will be senior Lecet Quiroz, who led the team last season with seven goals scored and four assists. Young players like junior Karyela Silerio and sophomore Dahlia Valdez also come back, a pair that combined for four goals and three assists last year and will be looking for more in 2024.
Also back for the Wildcats is starting goalkeeper Alynna Leos, who made 129 saves in her junior season and stopped just under three quarters of the shots she faced. Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union will open the 2024 girls’ soccer season Monday in Columbus Junction against West Liberty.
