At the request of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this week.

On March 10, 36-year-old Nathaniel Davis Jr. was booked into the Johnson County Jail to serve a seven-day sentence. At approximately 6:10 p.m. on March 14, a deputy watching a camera monitor observed Davis fall over. After determining that Davis was having a medical emergency, jail staff began CPR, applied an automatic external defibrillator, and called for an ambulance. Davis was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital Emergency Department, where he passed away on March 19.

In addition to the investigation, an autopsy will be conducted by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office. KCII will have more information when it becomes official.
