The Highland Community School District will be operating on a four-day week during the 2024-25 school year. At their meeting on Monday, the Highland School Board approved that calendar.

A public hearing was held prior to the decision, with no members of the public present to speak. After which, Superintendent Ken Crawford briefly explained the schedule, beginning with professional development days. “There are seventeen of those: sixteen half days and one full day. We also put in six snow days on those Fridays. We still have our Easter Break, we have three days for Spring Break, two weeks off for Christmas.”

The first day of school will be Friday, August 23 with the last day scheduled for Wednesday, May 28 2025. This calendar adds up to 149 days and 1,102 instructional hours. Iowa law requires 1,080 hours in an academic year.
