Despite bad weather, many area track and field teams were still able to compete and excel while doing so. Even with rain and wind wiping out half the events Thursday, the Winfield-Mount Union Girls Invitational still produced some good results for WMU and WACO.
Aurey Meeker was a winner for the hosting Wolves, as the senior claimed the crown in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13-and-a-half seconds. Senior Tessa Huston finished fourth in the 100 meters for Winfield-Mount Union, while sophomore Katie Miller was fifth in the high jump. The Wolves were also fifth in the sprint medley.
WACO was led by their shuttle hurdles team, as senior Zoey Dennler and junior Ally Rinner teamed with freshmen Madelyn Farmer and Brenna Graber to win the relay in 1:19. Junior Justine Lynn was fifth in the 3,000 for the Warriors, who were also second in the sprint medley and distance medley.
Highland took part in the Lisbon Invitational Thursday and was led by senior Grace Prybil’s runner-up finish in the girls’ 200. Sophomore Makenzie Davis was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, while freshman Alexa Hahn was fifth in the long jump.
The Huskies also finished fifth in the girls’ 4-by-100, while the best finish for their boys at Lisbon was from sophomore Elvin Hernandez, who was eighth in the 400.
The Keota girls participated in a meet at Pekin and were paced by bronze medals from sophomore Olivia Lyle in the 200 and junior Izzi Chalupa in the long jump. Junior Kimberly Clarahan was fifth in the 100 hurdles for the Eagles, who also finished fourth in the shuttle hurdles relay.
