The WACO Warriors defeated Lone Tree in a boys’ golf dual Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield, with their score of 227 strokes being 16 less than the Lions. Freshman Malachi Rinner led WACO by shooting a 14-over-par 50, while seniors John Mclaughlin and Brian Neal finished with 58 and 59, respectively.
The Warrior girls were also winners by finishing with 331 and ending up 21 strokes ahead of Lone Tree, thanks in part to sophomore Morgan Meyer’s top score of 69.
The Sigourney Savages ended up being runners-up at the girls’ golf quadrangular they hosted Thursday, but only just barely. A single stroke kept Sigourney’s team score of 222 from matching Colfax-Mingo.
Savage senior Emma Hammes was also the individual runner-up by firing a 12-over 48, while freshman teammate Addylyne Tremmel posted a 52 to finish fourth overall. Keota junior Lainey Swanson led the Eagles by shooting 55 and was seventh.
