The Winfield-Mount Union boys and Highland girls came away with victories Friday at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside as part of a busy day for local teams on the golf course. The Wolves defeated the Highland boys with a team score of 176 strokes, nearly 50 less than the Huskies.

WMU was led by senior Carter Loyd and freshman Justin Knipfer, who each shot a seven-over-par round of 43 to finish tied for meet medalist honors. Sophomore Max Edwards and freshman Cody Milks each finished with 45, while sophomore Konner Kinneberg posted a 50 and junior Sinjin Brown fired a 57.

Highland’s top score belonged to junior Colton Sypherd with a 50, while Huskies freshman Isaac Giesemann had a 59 and junior Will Dunbar and freshman Hamilton Krotz each finished with 58.

The Highland girls’ team score of 199 was 66 strokes less than Winfield-Mount Union. Huskies senior Kelsi Cerny was the meet medalist after shooting a 10-over 46, with junior Danika Kraus only one stroke behind her. Highland sophomore Adisyn Prottsman fired a 51, while junior teammate Adeline Krotz shot 55. WMU was paced by senior Lily Freeman’s 59.

Both WACO teams were also in action Friday at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Wapello in a triangular with Mediapolis and BGM. The WACO boys finished third in the team scoring and were led by freshman Malachi Rinner’s round of 52, while Warriors senior Noah Fried shot 57. The WACO girls’ team score of 336 was 75 strokes behind BGM, with sophomore Morgan Meyer leading the Warriors by firing a 77.

The Lone Tree boys also suffered a defeat Friday against English Valleys, as their score of 445 was 107 strokes behind the Bears at Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English. The Lions were led by junior Lukas Fuhrmeister, who shot a 106. The best score for the Lone Tree girls was 136 from senior Mia Bauwens.
