The Washington Demon boys’ golf team had a stellar showing at the Dutch Masters Friday and Saturday in Pella. Washington finished second in team scoring with a two-day total of 626 strokes, only six away from catching team champion ADM.

Demon senior Roman Roth was the individual Dutch Masters champion to add another victory to his trophy case. A one-under par round of 71 on 18 holes Friday at Bos Landen Golf Course was a big reason why Washington had the Day-One lead as a team as well.

Roth would shoot a four-over 76 Saturday across town at Pella Country Club to finish with an overall score of three-over 147, tied with Eliot Menninga of Pella Christian and Isaiah Zoske of Solon. The title would come down to a playoff, and Roth’s birdie when playing the ninth hole would be enough to crown him the champion.

Washington’s Rajan Roth was not far behind his older brother in fifth place, as a two-over 74 on Friday set the stage for 78 one day later to finish eight over in total. Fellow sophomore Drew Conrad had rounds of 82 and 76, while Teague Mayer shot 85 and 84.

Fellow senior Luke Beenblossom fired rounds of 92 and 88, while junior Cole Vetter joined the team on Saturday and shot a 95. The Demons have now finished at least second place as a team in all but two events since early May of 2022.

Washington returns to competition later today when they host a Southeast Conference meet with Mount Pleasant, Fairfield, Keokuk and Fort Madison at Washington Golf & Country Club. Demon girls’ golf is also in action today in Fort Madison and will host a conference meet tomorrow.
