Three KCII area boys golf teams make the trip Tuesday to Wahkonsa Golf Course for an 18-hole Invitational. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team has split their first two duals of the season, falling to Iowa City Regina and beating Tipton. The Hawks were second at their home 18-hole Invitational last week, with a team score of 344, led by top ten finishes for Drew Schlabaugh in fourth with an 82 and Grayson Gingerich seventh with an 84. On the season, the Golden Hawks have a team average of 172 per nine with a 166 low and a 344 average per 18. They are led on nine by Clayton Davidson’s 40, followed by Bryce Henry and Schlabaugh both at 44. Schlabaugh, Gingerich and Denver Nelson have all broken 90 on rounds of 18 this year.
The Columbus Wildcats will also be at Wahksonsa today. The Wildcats have split four Southeast Iowa Superconference duals this season, beating Louisa-Muscatine and Lone Tree, but falling to Winfield-Mt. Union and Hillcrest Academy. This season Columbus has a team average 205 per nine holes with a 200 season low. This is their first 18 hole event of the year. Cael Phillips has a team best 48 card per nine holes, followed by Ryan Coil and Cole Storm both at 51.
The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves will also compete at this event today. The Wolves are unbeaten in duals this year, scoring wins over Columbus, Wapello, Highland and WACO. They also finished fourth of six teams at Flint Hills last week in their only 18 hole event so far this year. Monday night in their win over the rival Warriors, WMU shot a 177 as a team led by this week’s Jessica Yoder and Sarah Bigley with Kalona Realty Athlete of the Week, Carter Loyd’s round of 41. On the year, WMU has a team average 179 per nine holes with a 176 low round to go with a 360 team average per 18. Individual leaders include, Loyd at 43 per nine, Cody Milks 44, and Justin Knipfer and Konner Kinneberg both at 48. Loyd’s 87 and Milk’s 88 are the team leading averages per 18.
Joining these teams today are Calamus-Wheatland, Louisa-Muscatine, North Cedar, Tipton, West Branch, West Liberty and the home Wilton Beavers and Durant Wildcats. Action starts at noon and continues all afternoon and evening at Wahkonsa Golf Course.
