The Lone Tree Lions and Sigourney Savages had solid efforts from their girls’ track and field teams Monday. Despite a fifth-place finish as a team, Lone Tree still produced a pair of winners at the Wildcat Relays in Durant.
Sophomore Ava Christofferson was the champion of the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.33 seconds and also won the 200 meters in 27.72 seconds. Rylee Shield also won the 400 for the Lions in one minute two seconds, while fellow junior Vivian Zaruba earned second place in the 800 and third in the 100.
Junior Hayden Yoder also won a bronze medal for Lone Tree in the discus toss and was fourth in the shot put, as was Shield in the 200 and the long jump.
Shield, Zaruba and Christofferson were all part of the relay team that won the sprint medley for the Lions by clocking in at 1:57. Lone Tree also finished fourth in the 4-by-400 meters and was fifth in the 4-by-200, 4-by-800 and the distance medley.
Sigourney was also fifth as a team at the Eddy Relays in Eddyville, thanks in part to their 4-by-100 relay claiming a title in 55.55 seconds. The Savages were also tied for fourth in the 4-by-400 and was second in 4-by-200, the sprint medley and the distance medley.
Sigourney sophomore Addison Yates was the runner-up in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, while junior Josephine Moore also had a silver medal in the discus and was tied for fifth in the shot put.
The Savages got third-place finishes from senior Amiya Smallwood in the 100 and freshman Kia Montgomery in the 400. Freshman Ella Bahlman was fourth in the 800, as was senior Erin Dawson in the 100 hurdles. Dawson was also tied for fifth in the shot put for Sigourney, while freshman teammate Chloe Wilson was fifth in the 1,500.
