The hosting Savages were second as a team and had the individual runner-up Friday at the annual Sigourney Boys’ Golf Invitational. The Savages’ team score of 349 strokes was only eight more than first-place English Valleys, and sophomore Solon Yates’ 12-over-par round of 82 was eight strokes away from earning him meet medalist honors.
Freshman Ike Molyneux finished fifth overall for Sigourney by shooting 84, while junior teammate Cain Weber was three strokes behind him in sixth. Junior Issac Bruns just missed out on the top 10 for the Savages after firing a 96, while senior Brock Alderson finished with 97 and sophomore Josh Wyatt posted a 98.
The Sigourney girls were able to earn a victory in a triangular they hosted Thursday, as a team score of 207 was 13 strokes less than second-place North Mahaska and 21 better than third-place Montezuma.
Savage senior Emma Hammes was the co-meet medalist by shooting a thirteen-over 48, while freshman teammate Addylyne Tremmel was only one stroke behind her in third and seniors Krista Sellers and Lana Thomas were tied for fourth by each shooting 55.
