As part of a busy day in local high school soccer, the WACO Warriors knocked off Sigourney-Keota yesterday 7-0. WACO built a 4-0 lead by halftime and never looked back. While the Warriors are now 4-3, SK falls to 1-6.

The Columbus Wildcats were also a winner last night. After falling behind by two goals at halftime, Columbus rallied in the second half against Burlington Notre Dame. Senior Fernando Erazo and sophomore Sachiel Villagrana each scored twice as the Wildcats knocked off the Nikes 4-2 in Columbus, giving the ‘Cats their second win of the season, both in conference play and overall.

Despite only trailing by a goal at halftime, the Highland Huskies were not as fortunate, suffering a 3-0 loss at home yesterday to Central Lee. The defeat drops to Highland to 2-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 4-4 overall.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union girls were also beaten yesterday, giving up seven second-half goals against Burlington Notre Dame after hanging tough early. Senior Lecet Quiroz’s fifth goal of the season was the only tally in an 8-1 loss for the Wildcats, who are now 1-4 in the Super Conference and 1-5 overall.
