The Keota Eagle boys’ golf team secured the team championship at the 2024 South Iowa Cedar League East Tournament yesterday in Marengo. It was by the slimmest of margins, but Keota’s team score of 326 strokes would be two less than second-place English Valleys and 10 better than the third-place Sigourney Savages.
Eagles senior Sawyer Stout was the individual co-tournament champion after posting a three-over-par round of 75. Teammate Cole Kindred was sixth overall by shooting an 83, while fellow seniors Tanner Waterhouse and Conner Strand were only one stroke behind Kindred in a tie for seventh. Freshman Brennan McGuire was tied for ninth by firing an 85, while junior Billie Kindred added an 89 as Keota wins its third event of the season.
Sigourney was paced by sophomore Solon Yates, who finished with an eight-over 80 to take fourth overall. Freshman Ike Molyneux was fifth with an 82 for the Savages, while junior Issac Bruns snuck inside the top 10 with an 85 and senior Brock Alderson and sophomore Josh Wyatt each shot 89. Junior Cain Weber rounded out the scoring for Sigourney with a 95. Both the Savages and the Keota Eagles head to a tournament in Oskaloosa later today.
