Two KCII area boys soccer teams take the pitch tonight in Kalona when the Hillcrest Academy Ravens welcome the Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats. The Ravens are unbeaten at 7-0 entering play, 5-0 atop the Southeast Iowa Superconference. They were 8-0 winners over the Wapello Indians Tuesday night in their last action, led by two goals each from Micah Gerber and Isaac Birky, and one apiece for Seth Ours, Mason Bender, Isaac Beachy and Mason Helmuth. Ours had a hat trick of assists, Lincoln Miller, Angel Sambrano and Bender each had one, Andrew Kauffman had a clean sheet in goal. On the year, the Ravens have outscored their opponents 32-2 in total and have posted five defensive shut outs. They have 149 shots, 85 on goal, 31 corner kicks, 26 assists and 33 saves with a 94% team save percentage. Individual leaders include Gerber with nine goals, Ours with eight assists and Kyle Neuschwander has stopped all 22 shots he’s faced.
Columbus is 2-6 overall, 2-3 in league play, winners of back-to-back matches over WACO and Burlington Notre Dame. Against the Nikes, the Wildcats trailed 2-0 at half before rallying for a 4-2 victory with two goals each from Fernando Erazo and Sachiel Villagrana, an assist for Bryan Tlatenchi and six saves in goal for Leo Corona. This season, the Wildcats have been outscored 32-9 in total with 43 shots, 14 on goal, 32 corner kicks, two assists and 41 saves with a 56% team save percentage. Individually, two Wildcats have scored this season, Erazo has five goals, Villagrana four, Juan Inarritu-Cruz and Tlatenchi each have two assists, and Corona has 41 saves in goal with a 56% save percentage.
These two teams have split their last eight meetings, with Columbus winning a season ago 2-1. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. at Hillcrest Academy.
