The Washington Demon boys’ soccer team is getting quite good at rallying in the second half to win conference matches, as Washington came back again to defeat Mount Pleasant 3-2 in overtime last night on the road.
The Demons fell behind 2-0 within the first three minutes of the game, but, as they’ve done three previous times this season, the multi-goal deficit would be erased after halftime.
Sophomore Edwin Cortes slotted a perfect through-ball into junior Lucky Lindsey to get Washington on the board, and senior Lane Schrock would convert a loose ball off a corner kick for the equalizer.
While the match would reach overtime, it would take less than a minute for Demon freshman Fletcher Brower to set up Bill De La Rosa at the top of the goal box, where the senior would strike for the winning “golden goal.” Freshman goalkeeper Braedon Tappan had eight saves as Washington improves to 4-1 in the Southeast Conference and 6-2 overall.
The Demon girls would not be as fortunate, suffering a 2-1 loss to Mount Pleasant at home. An own goal by the Panthers was the only tally for Washington, which falls to 1-5 in conference play and 2-7 overall.
