The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team put together a strong performance Thursday in a River Valley Conference dual win over the Wilton Beavers at the Kalona Golf Course. The Hawks took the contest by a 167-196 score. Top card belonged to Ace Peck with his season’s best medalist round of one-over-par 37 that included six pars and a birdie. Denver Nelson also went low with a 41, his best of the year, to finish as medalist runner-up. Those two joined KCII Sports after the meet to talk about the day.
Peck said, “My birdie on five was probably my best. My putting was also good today. Our team score was alright. We can definitely do better, but it’s a pretty good round overall.”
Nelson added, “Always trying to get better. Limit your mistakes. Work on what you need to work on. I played well overall today. My putting was good today. I made some long putts to save me. Our score leaves us room to improve and see if we can do better coming up.”
Other Golden Hawk scores included Drew Schlabaugh 43, Grayson Gingerich 46, Bryce Henry 51 and Clayton Davidson 58. Top Wilton number was 47 from Ryan Teel. Mid-Prairie is back on the course Monday when they host West Liberty.
