The Winfield-Mount Union boys and Lone Tree girls were the team champions in the Class B division of the Ekstrand Relays Thursday at Roth Field on the campus of WACO High School in Wayland.

Winfield-Mount Union dominated the boys’ relays, winning the 4-by-200-meters in one minute 35 seconds; the 4-by-400 in three minutes 35 seconds; the sprint medley in 1:41; and the distance medley in 3:45.

WMU had four individual winners, including senior Gabe Hemsworth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.83 seconds and junior Kohlby Newsom in the 800-meter run in 2:08. Wolves senior Jake Edwards cleared six feet two inches to win the high jump, while junior Cooper Buffington had a top toss of 117 feet nine inches in the discus throw.

Senior Ty Scorpil was runner-up in the 400 hurdles, as was sophomore Bowen Thomson in the mile. Senior Kael Johnson finished third in the 200 for Winfield-Mount Union, while Thomson was fourth in the half mile, as was Johnson in the shot put and sophomore Jaxton Jones in the 400.

Senior Cole Milks took fifth in the long jump, as did sophomore Jaiden Beedling in the half mile. The Wolves were also second in the 4-by-100 and third in the shuttle hurdles and the 4-by-800.

The Lone Tree girls’ team victory was led by three Class B relay championships, including the 4-by-100 in 52.2 seconds; the 4-by-200 in 1:51; and the sprint medley in 1:56.

Junior Hayden Yoder won the shot put by hitting a top toss of 31 feet two inches. Freshman Olivia Magruder was runner-up in the 400 for the Lions and was tied for third in the high jump.

Lone Tree sophomore Jazmine Nino also won bronze in the 800, as did junior Alex Dautremont in the discus, while Yoder and Dautremont were fourth in the discus and shot put, respectively. Senior Lilly Mills was fifth in the 400 for the Lions, as was freshman Carlee Sexton in the 800. Lone Tree also finished third in the 4-by-400.

Sigourney finished second on the boys’ side in Class B, finishing 22 points behind Winfield-Mount Union. Caden Clarahan was the champion of the 110 hurdles with a top time of 16.89 seconds, and the junior also won the shot put for the Savages with a top toss of 41 feet seven-and-a-half inches.

Troy Klett won twice for Sigourney, as the sophomore took the title with the mile by clocking in at 4:54 and won the half mile in 10:52. Colt Reed was runner-up in the 200 for the Savages, as was fellow sophomore Brayden Wood in the 800 and junior Jayden Thompson in the shot put.

Thompson was also third in the discus, as was sophomore Owen Menke in the 110 hurdles. Junior Ashton Schwab was fourth in the discus for Sigourney, while sophomores Wyatt Wehr and John Berg were fifth in the 400 and 800, respectively.

Freshman Carson O’Rourke was also fifth in the 400 hurdles for the Savages, who were fifth in the 4-by-200; fourth in both the 4-by-100 and the sprint medley; and second in the 4-by-400, the distance medley and the shuttle hurdles.

Hillcrest Academy was the girls’ runner-up as a team, just 11 point shy of catching Lone Tree. Sophomore Rya Scott won three times for the Ravens, claiming crowns in the 100 in 13.09 seconds; the 200 in 26.54 seconds; and the long jump by leaping one inch shy of 16 feet.

Freshman Marie Yoder was the Class B winner of the 1,500 in 5:20, as well as the 3,000 in 11:28. Sophomore teammate Siena Stanerson was the runner-up in both races, while junior Delaney Shaw was also second in the long jump. Sophomore Niva Helmuth was third in the 200 for the Ravens, who also finished second in the 4-by-400.

The hosting WACO boys were tied for third in Class B, thanks in part to winning the 4-by-100 in 46.09 seconds and the shuttle hurdles in 1:07. Isaac Rich took silver in the 100 for the Warriors, as did fellow junior Louden Huisenga in the high jump.

Junior teammates Clayton Miller and Gage Samo were tied for third in the long jump for WACO, while Huisenga and freshman Hayden Shelman were fourth in the 400 hurdles and 100 open, respectively.

Freshman Sam Meyer was fifth in the discus for the Warriors, who were also second in the 4-by-200; third in the distance medley; fourth in the 4-by-400; and fifth in the sprint medley.

Sigourney was third in Class B on the girls’ side, led by freshman Gwen Gatton’s victory in the 400 in 1:12. Sophomore Addison Yates was second in both the 800 and 3000 for the Savages, as was junior Josephine Moore in both the shot put and discus.

Junior Reagan Clarahan finished runner-up in the 400 hurdles for Sigourney, while freshman Ella Bahlman was third in the 400 open. Senior Amiya Smallwood was fourth in the 200 for the Savages, as were freshmen Bailey Gretter and Cloee Wilson in the 800 and 1,500, respectively.

Sigourney junior Ava Fisch was fifth in the 200, as was Clarahan in the 100 hurdles. The Savages were also fifth in the distance medley, as well as fourth in the sprint medley, the 4-by-100, 4-by-200 and 4-by-400.

The WACO girls were fourth in Class B, with Warriors freshman Carlee Lunsford becoming the champion of the 800 in 2:43. Junior Elyssa Graber was third in the 1,500, as was senior Zoey Dennler in the 100 hurdles.

Freshman Madelyn Farmer tied for third in the high jump for WACO, while sophomore Sarah Craun was fourth in the 400, as was junior Justine Lynn in the 3,000 and freshman Drew Graber in the long jump. The Warriors were also third in the 4-by-100, the sprint medley and the distance medley.

The Winfield-Mount Union girls were led by two winners, as junior Josie Nelson was the Class B champ of the 100 hurdles in 16.91 seconds and senior Tessa Huston won the 400 hurdles in 1:13.

Senior Aurey Meeker was second in both the 100 and 200 for the Wolves, as was sophomore Quin Smith in the high jump. Huston was also fourth in the 100 hurdles, while WMU finished runner-up in the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200.

Hillcrest sophomore Owen Scott tied for first in the boys’ long jump by nearly hitting 20 feet, while freshman teammate Kale Bailey was second in the 400; third in the high jump; and fifth in the 200.

Freshman Brock Nebergall led the Lone Tree boys with a fourth-place finish in the 800. Sophomore Grey Spillman was fifth in the high jump for the Lions, who were also second in the 4-by-800; fifth in the distance medley; and third in 4-by-100, 4-by-200 and the sprint medley.

The Highland girls were paced by sophomore Makenzie Davis taking silver in the 100 hurdles, while freshman Alexa Hahn was third in the long jump. Junior Adyson Gerot was fourth in the discus for the Huskies, as was freshman Hailey Brun in the 100, with junior teammate Lilly Barre in fifth.

The Highland girls also finished fifth in the sprint medley as well as both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200. The best individual finishes for the Husky boys were from junior Cayden Day, who was fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100.
