The Washington Demons ended Hillcrest Academy’s undefeated season in boys’ soccer with a 3-1 victory over the Ravens Saturday at Washington Wellness Park. Against a Hillcrest team that had allowed only two goals all season, Washington struck twice in a five-minute span in the first half.

Demon senior Lane Schrock curled in a 25-yard strike with some help from a stiff breeze for the game’s first goal in the 12th minute, then Bill De La Rosa scored on a feed from fellow senior Angel Mata in the 17th minute to expand the lead to where it would stay by halftime at 2-0.

After a mostly scoreless second half, De La Rosa would put the finishing touches on a Washington victory by finishing off a corner kick from senior Isaac Gentry in the 76th minute for his second goal of the match.

Seth Ours would get the Ravens on the board after an assist from fellow junior Mason Bender with 90 seconds to play, but it would not be enough to help Hillcrest preserve their 7-0 start to the season.

Instead, Washington gets their third straight win to improve to 7-2. The Demons will be back in action later today when they host Fairfield. The Ravens will next play against Highland later today in Kalona.

A pair of local soccer teams also suffered losses at the end of the week. The Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union girls dropped a pair of matches Saturday, falling 2-0 to Pella Christian and losing 7-0 to Burlington Notre Dame.

The Wildcats drop to 1-7. The Sigourney-Keota boys suffered a 9-0 defeat Thursday against Pella Christian. SK’s record fall to 1-7 ahead of their next match tomorrow against West Branch.
