Local high school girls’ golfers will get their crack at the postseason today in sub-regional tournaments. The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves, WACO Warriors and Columbus Wildcats will all play in Class 1A Region 5C at Dearwood Golf Club in New London, while the Lone Tree Lions head to Marengo Golf Club for the 1A Region 4B tournament.

Winfield-Mount Union senior Lily Freeman will be looking to earn her way to the regional finals after a solid season where she has led the Wolves by averaging an 18-hole score of 108 strokes, including going as low as 105.

Sophomores Kinlee Brown and Hailey Wellington have set the pace for Columbus this season, with Wellington have the lowest scores of the season for the Wildcats and averaging a score of 107 per 18 holes. Brown’s low 18-hole round of the season is 107 and is averaging 110-and-a-half.

Senior Mia Bauwens has been Lone Tree’s leading scorer, including a low 18-hole round of 136, while sophomore Morgan Meyer has the lowest total score this season for WACO. All Class 1A sub-regional golf tournaments will tee off this morning at 10.
