After learning last month that their City Attorney, Bill Sueppel would be resigning, the Kalona city staff was tasked with compiling a list of potential replacements.
They did more than just narrow the field. In just three weeks they had the position filled. Kalona City Administrator, Ryan Schlabaugh explained the process to KCII. “What we were instructed to do as staff was to go out and speak to attorney firms that represent communities Kalona’s size, have a good track record within the city clerk network. We really narrowed it down to a firm, Lynch Dallas out of Cedar Rapids. They do work for both Wellman and Riverside. We proposed a contract for them to the council, and it was approved on Monday.”
Steven Leidinger of Lynch Dallas has been named the new Kalona City Attorney, effective Tuesday. Schlabaugh was confident in the City’s selection. “As we met they were clearly the firm that we felt would best represent us going forward. We’re excited to work with them.”
Kalona’s former Attorney, Bill Sueppel, resigned due to his firm Meardon, Sueppel & Downer disbanding.
