The 2024 State Summer Games were held at Iowa State University in Ames last week for Special Olympics Iowa. Among the athletes competing were four from Sigourney Junior/Senior High School.
Competing and medaling in the 100 meter run were Atticus Boorman and Jacob Lucas. Lucas earned an additional medal in the softball throw, as did Lexie Owens. Shawn Stout, who also participated in the softball throw, earned a fourth-place finish. Violet Conrad qualified for the State Summer Games in the 100 meter run.
The Summer Games is Special Olympics Iowa’s largest event of the year. For three days, athletes from across the state take part in both individual and team competitions such as cycling, swimming, soccer, tennis, and track and field.
