Iowa Workforce Development released its April 2024 data last week. Among the seven counties in the KCII listening area, most of the results are positive.
Washington County reported the lowest unemployment rate in April at 1.6 percent, followed by 1.7 percent in Johnson County, 1.9 percent in Iowa County, 2.1 percent in Henry County, 2.2 percent in Jefferson County, and 2.3 percent in Keokuk and Louisa counties. These numbers are down from 2023 in all but Jefferson County, which rose by .2 percent.
All seven area counties experienced a dip in unemployment rates from March to April this year. Again, it was Washington leading the way, a full percentage point lower than last month. Keokuk County was down .9 percent, followed by Iowa at .8 percent and Louisa at .7 percent.
