The Highland Huskies split a pair of games on the home diamond Tuesday night against Louisa-Muscatine. Despite a 4-3 loss for softball, Highland baseball held on to defeat the Falcons 10-9 in Riverside.

Catcher Garrett Beeson had a team-high two hits and scored a run for the Huskies, while fellow freshman Hunter Seibel and sophomore Bryce Hazelett each crossed home plate twice. Eighth-grader Caleb Wheeler was the winning pitcher by throwing the last two innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits.

Highland would not be as fortunate last night, falling behind 6-0 after two innings and suffering a 15-4 loss to Central Lee in six frames. Junior Ryker Miller came up with a hit and two runs batted in, but the Huskies’ record still drops to 2-3, including a 2-1 mark in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

Highland softball’s close encounter Tuesday with 11th-ranked Louisa-Muscatine means the Huskies are now 1-1 in the Super Conference North and 2-1 overall. Both Highland teams are back in action tonight and back in conference play when they travel to face Wapello.
