The Keota Eagles downed English Valleys 11-2 on the baseball diamond Wednesday. Keota broke up a game that was tied at two with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but it was the seven spot in the fifth that put the Eagles in the driver’s seat.
Shortstop Tanner Waterhouse had a big game at the plate for Keota, with one of his three hits going for a double on his way to three runs scored and another three batted in.
Fellow senior Cole Kindred also had a double as part of a two-hit, three-RBI night, while catcher Aiden McGuire had two hits and drove in one and freshman Brennan McGuire scored twice.
Eighth-grader Blake Baker was the starting and winning pitcher, allowing a single hit and three walks over five innings of work. Baker also picked up five strikeouts as the Eagles get their first win of the season in the South Iowa Cedar League and raise their overall record to 2-3.
Keota softball would suffer an 11-0 loss to English Valleys in six innings, trailing 4-0 after an inning of play and never recovering. The Eagles are still winless on the season as they, like baseball, prepare to face another conference foe in Montezuma tonight.
