Health and wellness is the name of the game tomorrow at the Stride Into Summer Family Walk, hosted by Henry County Healthy Communities.
The third annual event takes place from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant. As participants make their way through the path they will find a number of family-friendly activity stations. Healthy snacks will be available, along with kids games, summer safety information, giveaways, and other hand-on activities. Anyone with young children is recommended to bring a stroller or wagon.
Henry County emergency personnel will be at the walk, including the Sheriff’s Office who will be helping families complete child identification kits. Other organizations with activity stations include ISU Extension, Henry County Disability Services, the Mt. Pleasant CSD, Henry County Public Health, and multiple libraries.
While the event has become an every-year affair, Kelly Carr, Community Outreach Coordinator for Henry County Public Health, tells KCII that the goal of the walk hasn’t changed. “The intention is the same thing: getting people out into our nice parks that we have, getting people to be physically active while also having fun as a family, and providing a free event for people to kick off the summer.”
If necessary, a rain date would be next Sunday. Updates can be found on the Healthy Henry County Facebook page.
