The KCII Area Game of the Week is back tonight for a Super Conference showdown between the WACO Warriors and Lone Tree Lions on the softball diamond.

WACO’s home opener last week was also featured on the KCII3 Stream, but resulted in a 13-0 loss to WMU. Since then, the Warriors dropped another game versus Hillcrest Academy to fall to 0-4. Still in the early stages of its first solo season in several years, WACO is hitting .231 as a team with an on-base percentage of .250 and slugging percentage of .282. The Warriors have five different starters hitting .333 or better, but no one with more than six at bats so far. Drew Graber pitched in the home opener for WACO, allowing just six hits and three earned runs, but walking 10. Mei Leichty and Rhiannon Horn have also gotten some time in the circle.

While WACO searches for its first win, Lone Tree arrives in Wayland unbeaten at 4-0. Aside from a comeback win against Hillcrest last week, the Lions have handled each of their opponents by at least 12 runs. A 13-1 win over New London saw Lila Bell and Sami Branson both go 3-3. Bell also had three RBI’s while Vivian Zaruba, Rylee Shield, and Kayleigh Rundlett each knocked in two. Junior pitcher Alex Dautremont took it from there, giving up four hits and just one run in her four innings of work. These two teams last met in 2016, as a 15-4 Lone Tree win made it nine-straight against the Warriors. WACO’s last win over the Lions came in 2009.

You can listen to WACO and Lone Tree softball tonight on the KCII3 Stream, found on KCIIradio.com by clicking “Listen Live”. Pregame coverage starts at 5 p.m. with first pitch at 5:30 live from Wayland.
