Winfield-Mount Union came up short in a pair of matchups on the diamond with Central Lee last night in Donnellson. Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus baseball trailed 2-0 after an inning of play and would only trail 4-0 entering the fifth, but that’s where Central Lee scored seven runs to end the game early in an 11-0 victory.

WMU softball scored twice in the top of the first but saw the Hawks get three runs in the bottom half. After tying the game up in the top of the second, the Wolves saw Central Lee put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the second and go on to win 15-3 in four frames.

Quin Smith blasted a home run as part of a two-hit, two runs-batted-in game, while fellow sophomore Katie Miller and senior Makiah Lower also had two hits each. Nonetheless, Winfield-Mount Union softball falls to 2-3, while WMU/Columbus baseball drops to 1-4. Both packs of Wolves are back in action tonight on the road at Wapello.
