Live coverage of Sigourney softball goes down on the KCII3 Stream tonight, as the Savages entertain the Montezuma Braves

After starting last season 16-2, #2 Sigourney has faced a little more adversity to begin 2024, but stepped up each time. The Savages had to forfeit their first game to Belle Plaine, but responded by winning their next five. Sigourney then dropped a pair of tough ones over the weekend to 4A opponents Newton and #2 North Polk and once again got back in the win column Tuesday, hammering Lynnville-Sully 15-0. One of Josephine Moore’s three hits left the yard as she knocked in five while Danni Aller went 2-3. Carly Goodwin continued her tear in the pitchers circle, fanning 13. Sigourney has developed a solid offensive presence, hitting .324 as a team and getting on base nearly half the time. Goodwin is 5-1 in her seven starts, already compiling 88 strikeouts in 39 innings. Sigourney sits atop the South Iowa Cedar League, a half game ahead of HLV and Belle Plaine.

They gear up to face Montezuma, 3-3 entering tonight’s contest. The Braves had won three in a row before running into Iowa Valley. Ellen Cook had two RBIs in the 8-4 loss, while Leah Urfer allowed 1 earned run in six innings. The Tigers plated seven runs in the final two frames, thanks to five errors in the field for Montezuma. The Braves are comparable to Sigourney at the plate, batting .333 as a unit, with 66 runs off 67 hits. Their staff has allowed 50 hits and 49 runs in just under 40 innings with an ERA of 6.05. The Savages have had the Braves’ number over the last 15 years, taking 23 of the last 25, including 16 straight since 2013.

You can hear Sigourney and Montezuma softball on the KCII3 Stream available at KCIIradio.com. The Roder Epoxy Pregame Show begins at 5 p.m. tonight and first pitch is at 5:30 from Sigourney.
