lone-tree-3

Lone Tree softball traveled to Wayland Tuesday, and they brought the bats with them as the Lions knocked off WACO 18-0 in three innings.

In a game heard on KCII, a pair of first-inning errors jump-started a Lone Tree rally that saw 10 runs cross the plate. Alex Dautremont knocked in two with a double. Abby Zaruba had an RBI-double as well. Cate Sexton added an RBI on a single, as the Lions built a comfortable lead against pitcher Rhiannon Horn and the Warriors.

In her fourth start at pitcher, Horn’s counterpart, Dautremont appeared as though she would cruise through the WACO lineup in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back  two-out singles from Horn and Lizzy Gerot, however, made the Lone Tree defense work. After getting out of trouble, Dautremont would face only six more Warrior batters the rest of the way. Earning the win, she struck out six, with no walks.

The Lions would add another run in the second, and a seven-run third inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from eighth-grader Harper Kuboushek. Horn pitched all three innings for WACO, striking out five, walking five and hitting two.

Now 5-0, Lone Tree sets its sights on Louisa-Muscatine Thursday. After dropping to 0-5, WACO softball has a date Thursday with the also-winless Pekin Panthers.
