Flag Day is Friday, June 14, and leading up to the observance, the Winfield American Legion Post will be collecting American Flags to be retired.

From now, through Thursday, June 13, members of the Legion will be accepting American Flags that are worn, torn, and/or faded. They can be dropped off at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After which they will be disposed of in coordination with the Winfield Fire District.

United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, states that “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
