The Sigourney Savages edged out Cardinal softball 7-3 last night in Eldon. Facing the 10th ranked team in Class 2A, the second-ranked team in 1A jumped out to the lead with a run in the second inning and four more in the third. Cardinal would get back within two runs heading into the final inning, but Sigourney stood strong and secured the road win.

Carly Goodwin hammered a home run and finished with two hits and two runs batted in for the Savages, while fellow senior Erin Dawson had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Ava Fisch also scored twice, while Goodwin allowed no earned runs on three hits and struck out 12 in pitching a complete game. With the win, Sigourney improves to 8-3.

WACO softball would not be able to conjure the same good fortune on the road at Pekin yesterday. The Warriors already trailed 6-0 by the time they scored their only run, suffering a 13-1 defeat in four innings.

WACO is still searching for their first win of the season as their week comes to a close. Meanwhile, Sigourney is back on the diamond at BGM tonight.
