Both Sigourney Savage teams beat BGM on the diamond Friday night. Sigourney softball shut out the Bears 9-0, using a six-run first inning to seize control.

Carly Goodwin hit her fourth home run of the season for the Savages while also finishing with two runs scored and two runs batted in, but her best work came as the starting pitcher, allowing only three hits and racking up a whopping 18 strikeouts in a complete-game victory.

Fellow Sigourney senior Erin Dawson had two hits and scored two runs, while junior Ava Fisch also scored twice and senior Ava Fineran came up with two hits and two RBI. The Savages, ranked second in the state in Class 1A, are now 7-1 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 8-3 overall.

Sigourney baseball also cruised to victory, beating BGM by a final score of 10-2. The Savages are also 7-1 in conference play and have an overall record of 9-2.

Keota softball would not have the same fortune, falling Friday night 16-6 to HLV. After the Eagles led 2-0 in the top of the first, the Warriors scored five runs in the third to go in front.

Keota would take a 6-5 lead in the top of the fourth, but six runs in the bottom half put HLV in front for good. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-6 in league action and 1-7 overall.
