An early deficit was too much to overcome on the road for the No. 9 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team Wednesday as they dropped an 11-5 decision at Class 4A Bettendorf. The Bulldogs sprinted to a 7-0 lead after the first inning, batting all the way through the order. Things stayed that way until the fourth, when the Mid-Prairie bats warmed up, pushing across a single tally, which the Bulldogs matched in the bottom half. The Hawks got two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings while Bettendorf finished the scoring with three in the sixth. The loss dropped Mid-Prairie to 11-5. The Golden Hawks are in action Friday when they travel to Council Bluffs St. Albert on their annual College World Series trip.
