Residents of Columbus Junction and the surrounding area have the opportunity to get a free health screening this Sunday thanks to the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic.

This mobile clinic will be from 11 a.m-2 p.m. Sunday in the basement of St. Joseph’s in Columbus Junction. Run by the Carver College of Medicine at U of I, they are made up of volunteers who are mostly undergraduate medical students.

One of those students, Emma Phelps, is the Coordinator for the Columbus Junction clinic, and shared some of the services they offer with KCII. “What we offer are quite a few different health screenings. We can check your blood pressure. We can check your blood sugars to screen for diabetes. We can screen your cholesterol. If that’s all somebody’s interested in, then that’s great. Then they can leave after that, but we also have the option to see a doctor if you have a health problem that you’re hoping to talk over.”

While the clinic is in Columbus Junction once a month, Phelps encourages anyone who would like to set one up in their town to reach out. “I would love to hear from any community members who are interested in setting up new locations. We are always excited to partner with community organizations to reach new parts of Iowa.”
