It was business as usual for Sigourney baseball and softball Friday night in a a sweep of Belle Plaine. The Savage boys took down the Plainsmen 10-3, while the girls ended things in five, 11-0.

Third-ranked Sigourney softball jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning, before adding four in the fourth and two in the fifth. The charge was led by Ava Fisch at the plate with a game-high three hits and three runs. Josephine Moore knocked in three off one hit, and Carly Goodwin matched with two hits. Goodwin was also untouchable in the circle Friday night, sending down all 15 Plainswomen faced, twelve by strikeout. The perfect game was the Savages’ lucky number 13 in the win column to just four losses. They play in a tournament Saturday at Lacey Sports Complex in Oskaloosa.

Much like the girls, Savage baseball benefited from multiple runs in the first inning, sending four across the plate. Isaac Bruns had two of his three RBIs in the frame, as well as one of his two doubles. Cole McKay had two runs batted in plus a game-high three hits. The Plainsmen didn’t have much success against freshman pitcher Chase Clarahan, who lasted 5 innings and allowed just three hits in his third win of the season. They did plate two in the third, however, to make it 4-2. That was as close as it would get, with the Savages scoring two in the bottom of the third, three in the fourth, and one more in the fifth. Caden Clarahan launched his fourth home run of the season, and Lincoln Power closed the final two innings on the mound, striking out four in his first appearance. Now 12-2, Sigourney heads to Keota on Monday.
