It was a tough day in Kalona Wednesday for the Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams as they dropped a pair of games to the Central Lee Hawks in a Southeast Iowa Superconference boys and girls cross over. The Raven boys were on the wrong end of a 7-1 score. Central Lee put up three in the second to take an early lead. Hillcrest broke through with their run in the fifth to get to 3-1 but the Hawks found late insurance with two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to pull away. The Hawks out hit Hillcrest 8-5 in the game. The Raven offense drew two walks. Liam Schrock led Hillcrest with two hits, both doubles and a run scored. Seth Ours, Mason Helmuth and Mason Bender each had one hit. Phoenix Anderson took the loss on the mound working six frames, surrendering five hits, five earned runs, four walks and striking out five. Cory Jones had the big day for the Hawks, driving in four on two hits. Blake Davis and Gage VanAusdall each had two RBI for Central Lee. Davis was the winner on the mound with four innings of four hit ball, walking two and striking out 10. Hillcrest fell to 11-3 with the loss as Central Lee climbed to 10-5.

On the softball diamond, No. 14 in Class 3A Central Lee ended proceedings early with a 16-0 win in four frames. The Hawks scored in each inning, five in the first and fourth, four in the second and a pair in the third. The Ravens had two hits on the day, a single each from Malia Yoder and Marryn Boshart. Kylee Statler spent the afternoon in the circle, going all four innings, giving up nine hits, 12 earned runs, and walking 10. The Ravens are 7-10 following the loss as Central Lee improves to 16-5.
