On Friday, June 14, a Cedar Rapids man was arrested and picked up a felony charge after his involvement in a motor vehicle accident in Riverside.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Vine Avenue and Iowa 22 East. According to the criminal complaint, one of the vehicles involved belonged to 58-year-old RC Harris. Upon investigation, one of the responding officers smelled an odor consistent with marijuana coming from the vehicle. This led to the discovery of what Harris confirmed to be marijuana.

Harris admitted to smoking earlier in the day and consented to a field sobriety test at the scene. After showing signs of impairment, he was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony, operating while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Harris has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 25.
