U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News about the Public Transportation Investment that Cedar Rapids and central Iowa recently received, “Well, that was something that I don’t have to apologize for putting out press releases, because I was the only one of the Iowa delegation that voted for it. Other people in the Iowa delegation are being criticized because they voted against the bill, but then they announced these awards and grants. And the whole purpose of it was to meet the infrastructure needs of our country. And in this particular bill, and it wasn’t the only reason I voted for it, was because Iowa is 50th of the fifty states in the percentage and number of bridges that are unsafe. So I want to make our bridges safe.”  Communities in central Iowa and in the Cedar Rapids area will receive a total of nearly $800,000 in federal funding to improve public transportation access. The Department of Transportation will administer both grants through its Innovative Coordinated Access and Mobility (ICAM) Pilot Program. ICAM receives funding from the Grassley-backed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
