Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus baseball rolled to a 13-3 victory Friday night over Louisa-Muscatine. The Wolves scored a run in the first inning to take the lead but really seized control by scoring eight times in the second, going on to win after just five frames.

Sophomore Trevor Phillips led WMU/Columbus with three hits, including a double, and scored one run. Lane Genkinger had two hits and two runs batted in for the Wolves, while fellow junior Riley Kaalberg and sophomores Kason Dopler and Tyson Kaalberg each had two knocks, two runs scored and one RBI.

Junior Kohlby Newsom drove in a team-high three runs and was joined by senior Cael Phillips and sophomore Nic Sparrow in each scoring once and having one hit.

Cael Phillips pitched all five innings and allowed just one hit and one walk for Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus, which raises its record to 6-9, including a 2-6 mark in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North.

WMU softball would be on the wrong side of things against Louisa-Muscatine, suffering a 12-0 defeat that dropped them to 4-9 in the Super Conference North and 5-15 overall. Both packs of Wolves are back on the diamond tonight against Mediapolis.
