The Highland Huskies took both of their road battles with New London on the diamond last night. Highland baseball was locked in a wild slugfest, falling behind 7-0 in the first two innings but using five runs each in the third and sixth frames to take an 11-9 lead.

After New London scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie things up, both teams traded runs in the seventh to force extra innings. It would take until the 10th, but the Huskies would break through for a run to grab the lead and hold on in the bottom half to beat the Tigers 13-12.

Will Dunbar smacked a home run as part of three total hits and came up with three runs scored and three runs batted in for Highland. Fellow junior Logan McFarland also had three hits and scored three times out of the lead-off spot, coming up with a pair of doubles.

Junior Ryker Miller hit a pair of doubles and had three total knocks for the Huskies while also finishing with two RBI. Freshman Garrett Beeson also drove in a pair and had one double as part of a three-hit night, while junior Colton Sypherd finished with three RBI on a pair of base hits.

Eighth-grader Caleb Wheeler added a double and a run scored and junior Landon Bell crossed home plate three times as Highland improves to 10-11 with the win.

Meanwhile, Husky softball scored once in both the first and third innings against New London for an early lead, and three more runs in the fifth would expand that advantage. But it was the explosion for 12 runs in the sixth that would end the game early and give Highland a 17-0 victory.

Senior Peyton Brun homered and had a whopping eight runs batted in on three hits while also scoring three runs to pace the Husky lineup. Eighth-grader Kamryn Fink also had a three-hit game and scored three times, while senior Sarah Burton had two hits and scored four runs in the lead-off spot.

Eighth-grader Maya Singbeil came up with one RBI and scored a trio of runs on two hits, while senior Madison Beeson also had a pair of knocks for Highland and junior Lilly Barre came up with a double, a run scored and another driven in.

Adisyn Prottsman pitched all six innings on the road for Highland and allowed just one hit and two walks. The sophomore also compiled 10 strikeouts as the Huskies raise their record to 14-8. Highland softball is back in action tonight against Columbus, while Husky baseball also plays this evening against Sigourney.
