At approximately 6:25 Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service Quad Cities Office issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwest Washington, southern Johnson, southeast Iowa, and northeast Keokuk counties in the KCII listening area.

About 30 minutes later, a Tornado Warning was announced for Johnson County. Weather radar indicated rotation between cities of Lone Tree and West Branch. Spotter-indicated threats with these storms included winds of at least 70 miles per hour, and 1.75 inch hail reported by Johnson County Emergency Management. Lone Tree received an inch of rainfall while Washington and the surrounding area received less than a half inch. Both warnings expired for the listening area by 8 p.m.

Three members of the KCII Severe Action Team provided live coverage on the air. In the event of a power outage, coverage would have continued thanks to KCII’s backup generator. The one to count on for severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
