The Keota Eagles outslugged English Valleys baseball for a 16-10 win Monday night. After falling behind 4-1 in the first inning, Keota put up four runs in the top of the second to take a brief lead, but English Valleys countered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles scored once in the fourth and twice in the top of the fifth to tie the game, and after the Bears took a 9-8 lead in the bottom half, Keota would put together a huge sixth frame to go in front, scoring seven runs to take the lead for good.

Cole Kindred hammered both a home run and triple on his way to five runs batted in and two runs scored for the Eagles, while Tanner Waterhouse smoked a double as part of a three-hit game and would go on to score four runs. Eighth-grader Blake Baker had two hits and was joined by sophomore Jacob Libe in having two RBI.

Senior Evan Vittetoe also had a pair of base hits for Keota, while senior Chase Sieren, junior Billie Kindred and freshman Brennan McGuire each scored twice as the Eagles improve to 9-10, including a 5-9 record in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Keota softball would fall behind 3-0 in the first inning against English Valleys and would end up suffering a 12-0 loss that took just four frames. The Eagles fall to 2-12 in conference play and 2-14 overall.
