Johnson County has been included in a disaster proclamation issued by Governor Kim Reynolds Wednesday. Also listing Harrison, Mills, and Pottawattamie counties, the decision was made in response to severe storms and flash flooding that occurred on June 21 and is continuing.

This proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of the severe weather. It also activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program. The Assistance Grant Program provides up to $5,000 to households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim. The Disaster Case Advocacy Program allows clients to create a disaster recovery plan that addresses hardship, injury, or adverse conditions. There is no eligibility requirement for this program, which remains open for 180 days after the proclamation.
