The Washington Demons battle a state-ranked Clear Creek Amana team on the softball diamond tonight, and you can hear all the action on KCII. Washington ended their longest losing streak of the season by winning the second game of a doubleheader Monday at Louisa-Muscatine, snapping a six-game skid to raise their record to 22-10.

The Demons, ranked 13th in the state in Class 3A, have leaned on a dynamic lineup that exploded for 16 runs on 18 hits in their road win Monday. Sophomore Leighton Salazar leads the team with a .513 batting average and 49 runs scored, while junior Ella Greiner is hitting nearly .450 with six doubles, two home runs, 27 runs batted in and another 27 scored.

Juniors Bella Salazar and Alyvia Anderson have been equally dynamic, with Salazar piling up 33 RBI and Anderson batting .377 with nine doubles, three homers and a team-high 38 runs driven in. Five other players have scored at least 23 runs for Washington to make up the fifth-highest scoring team in Class 3A.

The Demons face an equally high-powered lineup in Clear Creek Amana, the fourth-highest scoring team in Class 4A. Sophomores Kyla Schulte and Lizzie Pasbring have combined for 21 doubles, 10 home runs and over 100 RBI to power the Clippers to a number-twelve ranking in the state.

The Demons came close to conquering the Clippers last season, losing a 5-4 thriller in extra innings.
